From Classroom to Home: Teagan’s COVID-19 Matric Experience
May 3, 2023
As a matric student in 2020, my final year was turned upside down by the COVID-19 pandemic, forcing schools to close just as we were hitting our stride. Suddenly, I went from the familiar halls of my school to the uncertainty of learning online.
Initially, the lockdown felt like an extended break, but soon the reality of the situation set in. Instead of what was supposed to be the most crucial year of my academic journey, it became one filled with uncertainty and anxiety.
Switching to homeschooling wasn’t easy. I had to figure out how to navigate online classes, keep up with virtual assignments, and manage my time effectively all while missing the face-to-face interaction with my teachers and classmates
The emotional burden of the pandemic weighed heavily on everyone. Balancing the pressures of matriculation with the anxiety of a global health crisis was overwhelming, leading to both difficult and rewarding days.
Luckily, I had the unwavering support of my family, friends, and former teachers. My best friend even decided to homeschool with me, showing true support in a time of need.
Despite the challenges, going through matriculation during a pandemic taught me valuable lessons. I learned to adapt to change quickly, embrace technology as a learning tool, and prioritize my mental health.
Looking back, my COVID-19 matriculation experience was not what I expected but it helped me grow and become resilient and for that I am grateful. Homeschooling also taught me valuable life skills such as discipline and self-motivation which has set me up for success in a hybrid working environment with Express Marketing.
